So in the planning section we talked about the places that we really wanted to visit, the Sahara Desert, the Karikorum Highway and China, and from there the next decision to make were, how to devise a route that would get us to and from these places. Not as easy as you first might think!!!

Obviously our route down through Europe is pretty much straight forward and we will be doing this as quickly as possible to get down south, well it will be January after all and the warmth of the desert is very appealing!!!!

Since we are joining up with an expedition lead by OneLife Adventures, our route to begin with is laid out for us, and is pretty much driving south all the way down to Dakar, taking a few detours on the way to take in such delights as Marrakech, Casablanca and the mystical Timbuktu. From there we say goodbye to the group and carry on with the expedition leader across the Sahara with the aim to getting to and through Sudan, through Niger and Chad. Here we hope to make a trip north into the heart of the Sahara and the rock formations that exist there.

After that it is into Egypt and running down with the Nile we will get to see the Valley of the Kings and the Great Pyramids at Giza before heading across to catch the ferry to Jordan. This then lets us avoid going through Israel, and makes it a whole lot easier to visit some of the other countries on our trip. From Jordan we carry on up through the middle east taking in such wanders as the City of Petra and many of the sites of the “Crusades”. From Turkey we join in with the old “Hippy route” and carry into Iran and Pakistan.

In Pakistan we come to another of our most wanted the Karikorum Highway, a road going all the way from Islamabad up to the Chinese border and beyond. Then it’s on to India and all its delights before heading north into the roof of the world, Nepal.

Here in Nepal we hope to do as much as we can in the mighty Himalayas, getting as close to Mt Everest as we can. Then from our base in Kathmandu we will meet up with our Chinese guide and head on into China and all the delights this immense country has to offer us.

After a gruelling time in China we will take time to relax and recover in Laos before heading into Vietnam, taking in as much of the culture and history as we can. After a little time on the “beach” it’s back inland to Cambodia and the magnificent temples this country has to offer before heading off to Thailand.

In Thailand we are going to take some time out and relax with some friends of ours, getting energy back for the final push through SE Asia and into Australia. Unfortunately I have not asked them yet, but I do hope they will let us stay, and make use of the amenities they have!!!!!!!

Then it’s on into Malaysia and a trip up the tallest building in the world, I do hope Matt’s fear of heights does not come back to haunt him!!!!! Then a ship to Australia, an English speaking country finally. Time to relax and soak up the sun down under before heading off to New Zealand, our last country and the end of our journey.
